Press Release / April 1, 2004
First U.S. company signs contract with
NASA to build supply chain to Mars by year 2032 |

Pasadena, CA. April 1,2004 /PR Newswire/ --- House of Copenhagen Inc., a Danish-American joint venture, today announced plans to introduce world famous exclusive Scandinavian furniture design to the future population of Mars in the year 2032.
Bodil Jorgensen, President and CEO of House of Copenhagen, commented: “Renowned Danish designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint, Poul Kjærholm, Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl, and Mogens Kock, will be very hard, if not impossible, to find in furniture stores on Mars. We will bring these designers to the doorstep of our customers, at affordable prices through our new cost-efficient, built-to-order logistics.”
When a piece of design furniture is ordered, the item will be crafted by the world-renowned Danish furniture carpenters, in the form, material and color specified by the customer. Then, when the furniture is finished, a unique supply chain is set into motion. In partnership with NASA, House of Copenhagen expects to move furniture from a factory in Denmark to the port of Mars in less than 210 days, two times a month! Seven to ten days later, the built-to-order furniture is delivered to the customer’s doorstep within any destination on continental Mars.
Dr. Charles Elashi, Director of the Jet Propulsion Lab., says: “Getting humans to the Martian surface and returning them safely to Earth is an extremely difficult engineering challenge. A thorough understanding of the Martian environment is critical to the safe operation of equipment and to human health, so the Mars Exploration Program will begin to look at these challenges in the coming decade.” |
