Ege develops, manufactures and sells carpets, rugs, and carpet tiles to the international market. The company dates back to 1938 when Mads Eg Damgaard, a weaver by education, started his own enterprise working with looms. Damgaard bought more machinery and established a growing production of a variety of textile fabrics. The company survived the scarcity of proper raw materials during the difficult first half of the 40’es by introducing products made from alternative materials, e.g. paper-based fabrics. This ingenuity led to the establishment of the first really industrial facility with a large number of different looms and machinery to meet the extensive product demand. As the business was growing, the idea of specializing in Damgaard’s original craft became stronger. And with the introduction of the herringbone patterned runners, which became a great success, the course was set for the development into the specialized carpet company as we know it today. Later, with the introduction of the tufting technology, Ege started concentrating increasingly on tufted carpets.
